Guide to Wood Craft Workshops at Disney Resorts
How It Works:
➔Choose your design. There will be lots of different Disney-themed designs to choose from, including resort logos, seasonal designs, DVC logos, RunDisney designs, and more. You’ll receive a vinyl stencil with your preferred design.
➔Stain your wood. You’ll be given a wooden board, and then you’ll choose your favorite shade of wood stain (there are plenty of options, from light to dark) and stain your board.
➔Place your stencil. Once the wood stain has dried, adhere your vinyl stencil to the board.
➔Paint your design. Choose your paint colors, then dab the paint onto your board, using the stencil as a guide. This step takes the longest amount of time, as you ideally need to apply 5-6 coats of paint.
➔Peel off the vinyl stencil. Once your paint has dried, you will carefully peel off the vinyl stencil with tweezers to reveal your finished product.
Frequently Asked Questions:
➔Are kids allowed to participate? Yes. However, children attending this activity should be able to remain engaged with the project for at least 2 hours. Typically, kids aged 8 and up are capable of completing their own board (with a little help). Note that the wood stain used will stain clothing. Guests under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
➔How long is the class? These classes last at least 2 hours, but often go over. Guests should arrive 15 minutes early to check in and choose their stencil design.
➔Do I pay per person? No, you pay per board. Each reservation allows one paid guest and one accompanying guest. Cash tips for your instructor are much appreciated, but not expected.
➔How do I make reservations? Each resort has a different method to make reservations. You can find details about how to sign up for each specific resort below. Reservations can be made 60 days in advance and they fill up quickly, so it’s best to make your reservations well in advance.
➔What if I can’t get advance reservations or decide to join last minute? Each class accepts walk-ups as long as they have space available! But note that these classes usually sell out, so walk-up availability is very limited.
➔Can I join a wood craft workshop if I’m not staying at the resort? Of course, this activity is open to everyone! As long as you’ve made a reservation for the class, Security will allow you to park if you’re driving or arriving via rideshare. If you’re hoping to walk up and join a class without a reservation, then parking/rideshare access at the resort is not guaranteed and you should plan to arrive at the resort via Disney transportation.
➔Are the boards sealed and safe for food? Not initially, as sealant is not part of the activity at the resort. However, you are welcome to seal it yourself at home. A coat of water-based polyurethane or polyacrylic is recommended. You will need to wait about 3 days for the paint to fully cure before sealing. The poly is considered food safe, as it’s what most dining tables are sealed with.
➔Can I easily bring the board back to my resort? Yes. The board will be fully dry by the end of the class, so it’s easy to take with you.
➔Do I need to have artistic talent? Not at all! No artistic talent is needed. The instructor will be there to help you through the entire process.
➔Are snacks provided during the class? Yes, these classes do include a variety of snacks, unlimited soft drinks, and an alcoholic beverage voucher (1 voucher per paid guest at Fort Wilderness and 2 vouchers per paid guest at Wilderness Lodge).
➔How big are the boards? Boards are either an 18” round (Fort Wilderness) or a 10” x 16” rectangle (Wilderness Lodge).
