Guide to Canvas Painting Experiences at Disney Resorts

How It Works:

This is an instructor-led canvas painting art class, similar to a “paint and sip” experience that you may have available locally. Each class will follow along with the instructor as they show you how to paint that month’s Disney-themed design.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Are kids allowed to participate? This activity is intended for adults or kids aged 12 and older. Younger kids are certainly allowed to join in, but these are typically more advanced designs that younger kids may not be able to replicate. Kids are welcome to give it a try, paint their own version, and have fun! All participants should be old enough to stay engaged with the class for the entire 2 hours.

How long is the class? Painting classes last for 2 hours. Guests must arrive on time to participate. The entire class will work together on the same painting, following along with the instructor step-by-step, and late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

When do I pay for the class? Advance payment in full is required for the Colors of Coronado class only. For all other classes, payment is due when you check in for the class. Payments may be may via credit card, Disney gift card, or MagicBand (cash is not accepted). Cash tips for your instructor are much appreciated, but not expected.

How do I make reservations? Each resort has a different method to make reservations. You can find details about how to sign up for each specific resort in the links below. Each person participating, whether they’re adults or children, will need a reservation and must pay the per-person fee to participate. Each guest will work on their own canvas. Sharing one canvas between multiple guests is not permitted.

What if I can’t get advance reservations or decide to join last minute? Each class accepts walk-ups as long as they have space available! The class at Coronado Springs is most often sold out since it’s the only one Disney advertises online. But if the class you’re looking at is full, just sign up at another resort! The painting classes at the other resorts are more likely to have space available and are a great option for a rainy day activity or an afternoon break from the parks.

What’s included in the class? Every class includes the canvas, paint, expert-led instruction, and all the supplies you’ll need. Some resorts also include a snack or treat as a part of the class. A frame is not included, as these are gallery-wrapped canvases meant to be displayed as-is.

Are the canvases easy to bring home? The canvases used are 11” x 14” and will easily fit in a carry-on suitcase. They will still be slightly wet as you leave the class, so it’s easiest to do this activity at your home resort or if you will be using a car/ride-share to get back to your room. Transporting a wet painting on a crowded bus after class may be difficult.

Are the painting classes at each resort exactly the same? The general idea is the same, but they each have different sign-up methods and a design unique to that resort. Some offer snacks or treats and some don’t. Some classes are located in spaces with beautiful views that really make the class extra special, and some aren’t. If you’ve done this activity before, it’s worth doing it again to try out a new design!

Can I join a painting class if I’m not staying at the resort? Of course, this activity is open to everyone! If you’ve made a reservation for the class, Security will allow you to park at the resort if you’re driving. If you don’t have a reservation and want to walk into the class, you should arrive via Disney transportation.

Do I need to have artistic talent to participate? Absolutely not! Your instructor will guide your class through one small step at a time, and it’s easy to follow along even if you’ve never painted before. Stencils may be used to create Disney characters or silhouettes on your canvas, so there’s no need to worry if you don’t feel confident about painting any specific Disney characters.

How do I know what design I’ll be painting? The design taught in class changes monthly. Typically, each resort will feature its own unique design. When you make your reservation, you can ask at that time which design will be taught in your class. There are usually seasonal designs available around the holidays, or they might be themed to that particular resort, the newest Disney movie, Disney characters, or Disney park icons.

What if I don’t care for the design that’s scheduled for the month of my visit? You can visit any of the other resorts that offer canvas painting experiences - ask about the design for each available class during your trip and sign up for your favorite!

I want to paint, but these classes aren’t convenient for my visit. Are there any other options? There is a similar alternative - several resort  Community Halls and Activity Centers offer the option to paint a large canvas as a souvenir for $10, and most are available daily from 10:00 AM-10:00 PM. In this version of the activity, you’ll be using your imagination to paint anything you’d like on the canvas. This is not instructor-led, but Recreation Team Cast Members will be there to suggest design ideas and give you painting tips.
